Stockholm Open 2016 is over but the memory of 2016 will live on. Tennis celebrities as Gaël Monfils and Juan Martin del Potro boasted media attention as well as box office sales well ahead of the tournament.
 
Almost 40 000 visitors experienced the magic atmosphere in the Royal Tennis Hall and witnessed the international break through of Mikael Ymer. The 18-year-old stood up against ATP Tour veterans as Fernando Verdasco and Ivo Karlovic. Winning the the double title in pair with his older brother Elias was as unexpected as welcomed, a turning point for Swedish tennis.
 
Founded in 1969, Stockholm Open has grown to a landmark Swedish tradition. However, the tournament which over the years has welcomed no less than 21 out of 25 worlds no1s has also evolved to a high interest global matter. The international reach through TV broadcasts numbers 165 million tennis fans across the world. Juan Martin del Porto’s comeback on the center court in Stockholm, winning his first ATP tournament in almost three years echoed far beyond Stockholm and Sweden.
